I’ve been working consistently on the text and art for Dreamland RPG, and running lots of demos/playtests (go check out the Discord if you haven’t yet!). So have several other people, especially my co-writer Aaron Vanek.
In the process, we’ve created a lot of Dreamland adventures! By “adventures” I mean scenarios with characters & events, something distinct from Dreamland *settings*. Initially, my idea for Dreamland was that settings and adventures would be the same thing, and indeed there is some blur of definitions: the Asisilon region from “The Love of Asisilon” and Lispasia from “The Paradise of the Unchanging” are simultaneously settings & adventures. But, lately these two things have become distinct. A setting may be the location for numerous adventures of the DM and players’ invention, whereas an adventure is a plot idea which may, in some cases, be transplanted between different settings.
With that vague working definition in mind, here are the adventures which have been written & playtested so far for Dreamland: Fairytale Portal Fantasy Beyond the Wall of Sleep! (last updated October 18, 2024)
COMPLETE ADVENTURES (PLAYTESTED & WRITTEN)
- The Paradise of the Unchanging – the first ever Dreamland scenario, dating back to NecronomiCon 2015, in a much earlier form! It can be found together with the game rules in the Exalted Funeral Dreamland QuickStart.
- On the Wings of Dream – an introductory bird-themed adventure
- The Goodness of Hlanith – a fairy-themed adventure set by default in Lovecraft’s Hlanith, but not necessarily so
- The Love of Asisilon – a romance adventure
- Band on the Run (by Aaron Vanek) – an introductory music-themed adventure
- The Palace of Memories – an introductory wizard-themed adventure
- The Islands of the Devils Masked and Dancing (by TBA) – an exploration-themed setting/adventure
SEMI-COMPLETE ADVENTURES (PLAYTESTED, BUT NOT FULLY WRITTEN UP)
- The Doom That Returned to Sarnath (by Aaron Vanek) – a full campaign lasting over 100 hours, inspired by the Lovecraft story
- Idle Days on the Yann – an introductory adventure inspired by the Dunsany story
- The House of the Gnoles – a horror adventure inspired by the Dunsany story
- Jewel of the Spider God – a horror adventure inspired by the Dunsany story
- The Thunderous Wedding (by Aaron Vanek) – a mystery adventure
- Children of the Sea – a romance adventure
- The Fields Where Poppies Bloom – a romance adventure
- To the End of the World – an otherworldly exploration setting/adventure
- The Club of the Seven Dreamers – an otherworldly adventure originally written for D&D3e and later converted to the Dreamland rules
There have been other playtested scenarios besides these of course, including scenarios by playtest DMs who haven’t finalized them even to the point to be listed here as semi-complete, and free-form playtest adventures that didn’t exactly have a “plot”. In the end, hopefully many of the semi-complete adventures will be fully written up so that other players can read & play them, and many more adventures will be created…not to mention the settings that I’ll write about in other posts. If you want to try out some of these adventures, check out the convention list on the playtests page, or come join a game in the Discord!
